The
Center for Great Lakes Culture 2004 Annual Website Award
Pursuant
to its goals the Center has established the Center for Great
Lakes Culture Annual Website Award for the best world wide website
devoted to the history and culture of the Great Lakes region.
In particular, the Center will seek outstanding Great Lakes
cultural and historical content that embraces new media and
is therefore noteworthy for cultural importance, exceptional
quality, and effective design. Last year's winner was "Seeing
the Light: Lighthouses of the Western Great Lakes."
Criteria for
this year's award:
1. The site
should support the mission of the Center for Great Lakes Culture: to understand
and interpret the cultural history and expressions of the diverse peoples,
traditions, and customs of the Great Lakes region and the region's
interactions with the world.
2. The site
must be constructed as an enduring resource for teachers, scholars, researchers,
students, or the interested public.
Judging process:
1. A call for
nominations will be placed on the CGLC this website. Nominations will also
be solicited from the Regional and Faculty Advisors of the Center for Great
Lakes Culture and individuals on the Center listservs.
2.
Nominations should be sent to Peter
Knupfer or using the CGLC Awards
Nomination Form.
3.
The deadline for nominations is February 1, 2005. The
nominations should include an accurate URL for the site's
home page, a statement of support describing the site's
value to understanding the history and culture of the
Great Lakes region and a description of its intended
audience and uses.
4. A panel
selected from the Center Steering Committee and Advisory committees will
review nominations and make their recommendations for the winner.
5.
The winner will be announced at the Center for
Great Lakes Culture conference (TBA) next Spring.
6. The webmaster
and sponsor of the winning site will receive plaques from the Center signifying
their award. The Center will also provide a click-through graphic award
symbol for posting at the winning site.
