Teach - The Education And Curriculum Homesite (TEACH Great Lakes), a new component of the Great Lakes Information Network, focuses on advancing the nature and distribution of Great Lakes-related educational materials to the broad audience of educators and students in the Great Lakes region and beyond.  TEACH offers a variety of activities for immediate use in the classroom or to use as building blocks for larger lesson plans. TEACH resources are interdisciplinary and intended to be adapted for all age groups.

A variety of Michigan State University academic programs offer classes that relate to the cultural life of the Great Lakes region. Students can create cognates of areas of concentration in Great Lakes regional studies. The department of Anthropology; Art; English; History; Geography; Parks, Recreation and Tourism; and the School of Music offer regular masters and doctoral programs. Centers and programs include American Studies, Museum Studies, Canadian Studies, Native American Studies, Center for Maritime & Underwater Resource Management, the Julian Samora Research Institute, and the Comparative Black History Program.
