R e s o u r c e s  &  R e f e r e n c e s

Following is the beginning of an "inventory" list of maritime resources (products, publications, collections, people) - based solely on materials provided as examples by "gathering" participants during the work sessions. This is an extremely limited list, but is intended to serve as a "seed" for submission of other resources to be included in this web-based inventory.

We encourage everyone to submit resources for inclusion. Please submit to Gail Vander Stoep. Digital lists are preferred.

Publications

Windjammers: Songs of the Great Lakes Sailors (Wayne State University Press, 2002). A wonderful resource for people interested in Great Lakes maritime traditions! It features the life's work of the late Great Lakes folklorist and University of Michigan professor Ivan H. Walton and was compiled from material collected in Walton's lifetime and now in the Walton Collection of the Michigan Historical Collections at U-M's Bentley Historical Library by Joe Grimm, recruiting-development director for the Detroit Free Press. Artwork by Loudon G. Wilson, a Walton collaborator whose artwork is drawn from the Historical Collections of the Great Lakes (Bowling Green, OH) and a CD of songs from the book.
